MP3 is the new audio technology taking the world by storm.

Because MP3 files are small, they can easily be transferred across the Internet. Controversy arises when copyrighted songs are sold and distributed illegally off of Web sites. On the other hand, musicians may be able to use this technology to distribute their own songs from their own Web sites to their listeners, thus eliminating the need for record companies. Costs to the consumer would decrease, and profits for the musicians would increase.

WINAMP

Winamp plays MPEG Layer 2 (MP2) and Layer 3 (MP3) audio streams, and combines extensive functionality with an intuitive interface (see screen shot). It has a full-featured playlist editor and a ten-band graphic equalizer with user-definable presets that can automatically load specific files. It also features Windows Media Technology 4.0 input/output support and the industry-standard Fraunhofer MP3 decoder. This download no longer includes VIS/DSP plug-ins.
Version 2.65 brings improved MP3 HTTP streaming, fixes to the ex-M3U bug/security hole, and other minor fixes.

Easy CD-DA Extractor

CD-DA Extractor performs digital audio extraction from CDs or DVDs into WAV, RAW, or MP3 files. The digital audio can be compressed using any ACM (audio compression manager) driver, so the compression can result in formats such as PCM, ADPCM, CCITT a-law/u-law, and MP3. CD-DA Extractor supports ATAPI, SCSI-2, and SCSI-3 devices, and has the ability to save and edit track names, play audio, and perform sector synchronization. Additionally, it contains a file encoder/decoder (MP3, WMA, or WAV to MP3, WMA, or WAV) and a digital CD player, and supports Pentium III SSE and the Windows Media Audio tag. Version 4.2.0 features several updates and bug fixes, including the ability for the File Converter to now read and write ID3 tags, user interface enhancements, and more. Also, this version now uses Windows Installer.
